The Erin McDougald quartet will be featuring special guest addition,

nationally renowned vibraphonist JIM COOPER on Monday February 14, 2011

at the world famous Jazz Showcase for a special Valentine’s Day performance.

Selections from Erin’s original compositions and gems chosen from her four

albums will be performed; she will also debut new material and arrangements

in the two set line-up. Shows begin at 8pm and 9:45pm, respectively. The

cover is $10 per person, collected at the door before the performance

(people who pay for the first set do not have to pay another cover if they

choose to stay the second set as long as space permits); please note, there

is also a $10 or two drink minimum per person during each set.

Erin McDougald is a dynamic, nationally recognized jazz vocalist and the

leading lady of the Chicago jazz scene. She has headlined Chicago’s premier

listening rooms, holding long-standing contracts as headliner in The

Metropole, Intercontinental, The Pump Room, The Allerton’s M Avenue Jazz

Club, The Palmer House, Plaza Tavern, Green Dolphin Street and many others.

She has recorded four albums under her direction, featuring her innovative

arrangements and her highly sophisticated original compositions. Her music

has been featured in national advertisements, independent films, and on

other artist collaborations. McDougald’s latest album, due for release this

year, features iconic players Dave Liebman, Tom Harrell, Chembo Wilson and

other recently rising stars such as Rodney Green and Mark Sherman, among

others. McDougald has performed with Nicholas Payton, Hank Jones,

Ben Wolfe, Harold Maybern and others of such echelon. Her singing has

been lauded by jazz giants Oscar Peterson, Gene Lees, Buddy Bregman,

Keely Smith, Freddie Cole and Jeremy Pelt, to name a few.

She has performed to rave reviews across seas and once again wowed

discriminating critics and audiences from NYC to San Francisco with her

"evocative artistry" (Chicago Music Guide) and her "positively mercurial

… rich, beautiful tone of voice" (Jazz Improv).

Dae Bennett (sound engineer and owner of Bennett Recording Studio, son of

Tony Bennett) emphatically states "Erin’s singing is, without question, some

of the most beautiful I have recorded in a very long time… She sounds like

she has been singing at this very professional level for 30 years, but she’s

still so young, it’s kind of shocking at first. She was very impressive in

the studio". Erin is currently on contract with Moet Hennessy international

brands, performing for different events and concerts that the international

company sponsors.

Jim Cooper was born in Chicago and has been playing jazz vibraphone for

almost 40 years. He has performed with outstanding musicians as Barrett

Deems, Art Van Damme, Larry Vuckovich and Buddy DeFranco and

appeared twice with Jon Faddis, Victor Goines & Chicago Jazz Ensemble.

Jim has appeared at the Chicago Jazz Festival, Sutton’s Bay Jazz Festival,

Lansing Jazz Festival, Thornapple Jazz Festival, the Idlewild Jazz Festival

and Chicago’s Millennium Park. He has also performed in such jazz clubs

as The Green Mill and The Jazz Showcase in Chicago, The Jazz Estate in

Milwaukee, Detroit’s Baker’s Keyboard Lounge and many other jazz venues

throughout the United States.

In the 1980′s Cooper teamed up with Chicago composer/pianist Bob Dogan,

The Jim Cooper/Bob Dogan Quintet being a mainstay jazz combo on the

Chicago jazz scene. In 1990 an association with the legendary Ira Sullivan

culminated in his two Delmark recordings Tough Town (1991) and Nutville

(1992). Jim is currently celebrating the re-release of Nutville, with a recent

performance with Ira at The Green Mill. Jim was a Delmark Recording Artist

in the early 90s which earned him national recognition, Jazz Times calling

Cooper, “a warm vibist who goes for the heart.”

Since establishing himself in Michigan in 1997 after a three month stint

teaching in Taiwan, Cooper had the chance to perform with many fine

musicians from that state. .Jim’s current projects include writing for and

performing in The Cooper, Hay, Van Lente Group (releasing Trio Musik in

2007), gigging with Detroit clarinetist Dave Bennett, and his “Tribute to

Benny Goodman Band” and leading “Mallet Madness,” a Chicago sextet

featuring three vibes players which performed at the 2010 Chicago Jazz

Festival. He is also finishing a book of his jazz compositions and planning

a new CD in 2011. Jim holds two B. A.s from Northeastern Illinois University

and a M.M. degree from Northern Illinois University.
