A professional musician since 1962, in Los Angeles and Chicago, has done recording as a performer, and writer/producer of commercial music for television and radio. His piano artistry and musical sensitivity are well known in the musical world.
Jim has played keyboards for such artists as Al Jarreau (Grammy Award-winning album ALL FLY HOME); Bobby Lewis (seven CDs for Southport records); Nat Adderley, Bud Freeman, Marvin Stamm, Richie Cole, Mike Smith, Pat Mallinger, Hank Crawford, Ken Peplowski, Ira Sullivan, the Platters, Sammy Davis Jr., Bobby Caldwell, and many others.
He has performed at the North Sea Jazz Festival (The Hague in the Netherlands) in 1990 and 2000; The Chicago Jazz Festival in 1993 and 2006; in Bombay (Mumbai), India, with the Chicago Jazz Express in 2000; at jazz festivals in La Crosse, Wisconsin, and Elkhart, Indiana; and at many special concerts and musical events in the Chicago area; Symphony Center, Ravinia Festival, Pianoforte Chicago, and Andy’s Jazz Club (30 years). Speaking of Andy’s, we just saw Jim there! The Jim Ryan Quartet plays Thursdays from 5:00 – 8:30 pm through August 27th, 2009! The photo above is from that night .
